Frequently Asked Questions About Lawn Care
-
How often will you fertilize my lawn?
We will apply fertilizer to your lawn 4-6 times a year. This helps to create and maintain a green and healthy-looking lawn.
-
What can I do to achieve the best results from my fertilizer and weed control services?
For weed control, it’s important to wait 24 hours before watering. This allows the leaves to fully absorb the chemical. After fertilizer has been applied, you may water immediately. You should avoid mowing for 2-3 days prior to service so that weeds may grow enough leaf to catch the weed control chemicals.
-
Why should I invest in fertilizer applications?
Fertilizer helps add much-needed nutrients to your lawn’s soil. This helps promote new grass and root growth, and contributes to a lush, healthy lawn.
-
How long does it take for fertilizer to work?
Liquid fertilizer will begin to work immediately, and your lawn will show signs of greening in about 24 hours. Granular fertilizer requires watering for activation, and will begin to show results in 2-5 days.
-
How often should I water my lawn?
We recommend that you water deeply once or twice a week — ideally totaling at least 1 inch of water. This helps to create a stronger and deeper root system.
-
Will fertilizer harm my trees?
No. When applied correctly, by professionals who follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and guidelines, lawn fertilizer will not harm your trees.
-
How much time should elapse before my lawn is safe for my family and pets to walk on?
For liquid fertilizer, children and pets need to stay off the treated areas until it has had a chance to dry completely. For granular fertilizer, the granules must first be watered into the soil with sufficient amounts of water. After the treated areas have been completely dried it will be safe for your family and pets.
-
How long should I wait to mow after fertilizer has been applied?
You will need to either mow before fertilizer is applied, or wait 2-3 days after application.
-
Should I bag my grass, or leave the clippings in the yard?
If you’re mowing your lawn regularly, it’s best to leave the clippings lay. This acts as a mulch barrier for the applied nutrients, and provides the grass with other forms of organic nutrients to compliment the fertilizer.
-
How short should I mow my lawn?
If you can mow at a high setting, it will help your lawn grow more effectively. This reduces stress on the grass, and provides shade for the soil, reducing the amount of moisture lost through evaporation.
-
When will you begin fertilizer application?
We will apply the first application right away in the spring.
-
What happens if it rains soon after my fertilizer is applied?
Don’t worry; the rain will only help the fertilizer soak into the soil.
-
When should I have my lawn aerated?
It’s best to have this done in the spring, before overseeding and applying fertilizer. Aerating is most important if your lawn is receiving granular fertilizer.
-
Can you explain what the numbers on fertilizer stand for?
The first number represents the percentage of Nitrogen (N). Nitrogen promotes new grass shoot growth. The second number stands for the percentage of Phosphate (P). Phosphate promotes strong root growth. The third number is the percentage of soluble potash, or Potassium (K). Potassium helps to reduce stress and fights against disease and drought.
